Alice Haining was born in Galashiels, moving to Nottingham at the age of 19 to pursue her career in Canoe Slalom at national and international level. Alice started kayaking at the age of 9 with Selkirk Canoe club, a local paddling club. Since then she has competed all over the world for her club, Scotland and Great Britain.

 

As well as kayaking, Alice used to compete in cross-country and track running, with Gala Harriers, where she competed at club and national (Scottish) level. At the age of 16 she had choose just one sport to compete for the top spot, and aim for G B teams. Since choosing canoe slalom she has never looked back.

 

As well as competing Alice coaches up and coming youth in the sport and is pursuing her coaching qualifications. With not many woman canoe slalom coaches in Britain she aims to pursue this throughout her paddling carer and into the future of the sport.
